PTA HAILS GOVT’S DECISION FOR IMPOSING “COMPLETE BAN” ON EXPORT OF LIVE ANIMALS FROM PAKISTAN

Karachi: 29th July, 2011: Mr. Khurshid Alam, Chairman, Pakistan Tanners’ Association hailed the decision of Government of Pakistan in a press statement issued today for imposing a “Complete Ban” on Export of Live Animals from Pakistan, which was demanding persistently by Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA).

The Chairman, Pakistan Tanners Association, Mr. Khurshid Alam also informed in a press statement that a Ban on Export of Live Animals from Pakistan would certainly bring positive impact specially to reduce the Meat Prices in Pakistan, which is already at exorbitant extent for the Peoples of Pakistan in general as well as to avert the serious scarcity being confronted by the Leather Industry for procuring the basic raw materials i.e. Hides & Skins.

The Ban imposed by the Government of Pakistan today was the dire need of the Leather Industry to cater to the needs of basic raw materials (Hides & Skins) for PTA’s country wide members for meeting the export demands for timely execution of export orders, which were become in jeopardy for cancellation for the lack of this basic raw materials.

Mr. Khurshid Alam, Chairman, Pakistan Tanners Association thanked to the Government of Pakistan specially to the Ministry of Commerce, Government of Pakistan and all Government’s concerned quarters for their initiatives for imposing a “ COMPLETE BAN ON EXPORT OF LIVE ANIMALS FROM PAKISTAN” for the supreme national interest.

Apart from the above, the Chairman, PTA, Mr. Khurshid Alam also appealed to the Government of Pakistan, Pakistan Custom, Ministry of Commerce and other concerned Securities/Vigilance Agencies of the Government to take immediate stern action on Smuggling of Live Animals from Pakistan, which are approximately being made 200,000 animals on monthly basis to Iran & Afghanistan, which is also one of the paths for increasing the Meat Prices in Pakistan and unavailability of sufficient quantity of Hides & Skins for meeting the domestic demand of Leather Industry.

The Chairman, PTA, Mr. Khurshid Alam also optimistic that another genuine demand of PTA for imposing a Complete Ban on Export of Wet Blue & Wet Blue Split Leather of all kinds from Pakistan is in active consideration by the Government of Pakistan and hopefully announcement would also be made shortly for the betterment of Leather Industry.
