DEEP CRISIS OF ELECTRICITY FOR LEATHER INDUSTRY
Karachi, 29th April, 2011

The Chairman, Pakistan Tanners’ Association, Mr. Khurshid Alam once again invited immediate attention through a press statement issued today to the Electricity Load shedding specially in Punjab, which is now at deteriorated extent upto 18 Hrs daily, resultantly the Leather Industry of Pakistan is now in deep crisis facing great hardships in the manufacturing/execution of export orders and unable to fulfill the commitment made by PTA’s members in writing with the valued foreign buyers/customers.

Mr. Khurshid Alam, Chairman, Pakistan Tanners Association also informed to the Print & Electronic Media in his press briefing that in the wake of heavy daily Load shedding PTA’s members are suffering financially severely in the cancellation of export orders and loosing precious foreign exchange, which is desperately required by our beloved country for strengthening the country’s economy.

This alarming situation has repeatedly been brought into the notice through Press Releases and special PTA’s letters addressed to the Honourable President of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Commerce Minister & Ministries concerned for taking serious note on the power failure, but nothing has come out as yet, besides the situation is being converted from deteriorated to worst day by day specially for Leather Industry of Pakistan particularly in Punjab.

He apprehended that if this critical situation may not be addressed IMMEDIATELY for the frequent supply of Electricity to the Leather Industry of Pakistan, which is 2nd biggest export oriented value added Industry of the country, then PTA’s members would have No choice to shut down their Factories specially in Punjab as well as to join the agitation/protest already announced by other business communities in Pakistan for the heavy load shedding.

Mr. Khurshid Alam, Chairman, PTA once again appeals to the Honourable President of Pakistan & Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Chief Minister Punjab to look into this very significant matter for the supreme interest to save the 2nd biggest export oriented Industry from further collapse to cater to the basic needs of Uninterrupted Power Supply to the Leather Industry of Pakistan specially in Punjab for the execution of export orders.
